Written by Admin | October 28, 2022

Microsoft began beta testing the updated Outlook desktop application for Windows in May under the working name "Project Monarch." All Office Insiders signed up for the Current Channel (Preview) can now choose to opt-in to test the new One Outlook app, the business recently revealed.

The new Outlook client is a web-based program and a significant advancement in Microsoft's plan to provide a unified user experience on all platforms. In the next weeks, Microsoft also intends to make the new Outlook experience accessible to Windows Insiders inside the integrated UWP Mail app.

“This new Outlook for Windows is designed to provide a contemporary yet familiar Outlook experience that helps to improve personal productivity and email organization for users,” the Office Insider team explained. “In the coming weeks, this experience will also be made available for Windows Insiders in a similar toggle within the Windows Mail app.”

Support for Microsoft Accounts

Microsoft has improved the new Outlook for Windows experience with this release by adding some new features and performance improvements based on user feedback. To begin with, the program now supports employee accounts for Outlook.com, Hotmail, and Windows Live. Users may manage their Outlook inbox and quickly reach critical documents and newsletters with the help of a new Quick Steps feature.

Simplified ribbon options

Users can now choose the width of the calendar's columns in the updated Outlook app. According to Microsoft, the change should make it simpler for customers to quickly access the specifics of their weekly plan. The navigation experience for Outlook users is enhanced with the addition of new, more straightforward ribbon options in this release.

“Tips” in Outlook feature

Last but not least, Microsoft has unveiled a brand-new "Tips" feature that informs users of all recent additions to Outlook for Windows' feature set. Additionally, to assist users in organizing their daily plans, the app now displays helpful advice in the calendar view.

The aforementioned functions expand upon the functionalities that have been under preview since May 2022. These include of new Calendar board views, Microsoft Loop components, pinning support, automated reminders, and more.

New Outlook for Windows clients to get multi-account support

Office Insiders can currently download the new One Outlook app in the Current Channel version 2209 (Build 15629.20058) or later. To activate it, users must click the "Try the New Outlook" toggle in the top-right corner of the program.

According to Microsoft, the new One Outlook client does not enable multiple accounts (both personal and professional), but this functionality will be included in a subsequent release. In the future, the company will also provide support for Offline access, native ICS file type, web add-ins, and third-party accounts.
